Ironically, one of the greatest acts of resistance, is raising a generation of liberated children. The ways we create our communities, act on our joy, and how we react to injustices will serve the model for our children. As a mother, my greatest purpose is to protect my children. As an auntie, I understand my realm of influence can create a ripple effect. This piece is a call to us as caretakers and adults that together, we are raising up the next generation of leaders. May our fight for our liberation blanket them in safety, so that their future and the future children of this world can live full and free lives. They are all our children.
Historical symbolism:
Melchora Aquino, lovingly known as Tandang Sora, was revered as the "Mother of the Philippine Revolution." While raising her own children, she nurtured an entire revolution from her store, serving as a meeting place and refuge for the Katipunan. I can only imagine the future she had envisioned and fought for. A piece of her love and courage lives in many of us.
